Amaranth features essential amino acids – including lysine, methionine, treonin and cysteine all within one small seed! Because of this amaranth may be considered a complete protein, as it contains each and every one of the essential amino acids.

A little history

This ancient, cultivated crop originates from Mesoamerica and the use of Amaranth dates all the way back to the time of the Aztecs, Incas and Mayas, who each considered Amaranth as a vital staple food. Not only was this food vital for the health of these ancient peoples, but it was even used within religious ceremonies.

Originating from Mexico these seeds emerge from a beautiful flowering plant that is actually part of the mint family. Alongside the key ingredient within Kuali – the amaranth seed, it is thought that chia served as a vitally important staple food for the ancient Aztec people.
